Biography
My name is Sierra Martin and I have a degree in Journalism and Media Studies from Texas State University. I am a Journalism major and Media Studies minor and I aspire to be a news writer for a print publication. My time in college has been challenging, rewarding and extremely memorable.
I have learned many valuable things such as coding in HTML and CSS, website development, photography and video editing and how to conduct a successful interview. I also have ample experience using many Adobe softwares such as Photoshop, Lightroom, InDesign, Audition, Illustrator and XD. By spending two years at the University Star, Texas State's newspaper I cultivated my skills as a journalist and in social media management.

In my free time I like to take photos, write poetry and listen to true crime podcasts. I am very excited for what my future holds and to start my career. As a hard worker and team player, I am confident I can succeed in my future endeavors.

Sierra Martin’s college career has given her the real-world experience and credentials needed to be an effective professional journalist. Martin is a writer for the University Star, Texas State University’s newspaper, and won the Newcomer of the Year award in 2019 for her work at the campus paper. Her experience at the University Star has showcased her writing skills and abilities as she looks to further her journalism career.

Early on in her college career, Martin was originally going to school to earn a degree in nursing. She quickly learned that she didn’t enjoy the curriculum that becoming a nursing
major required so she chose to follow her true passion, writing and journalism.

“Writing is my favorite passion, I have written poetry for years and even have some poems published,” said Martin. “I love writing and expressing myself, and I became passionate about journalism my sophomore year of college when I was addicted to reading the news.”
​
At the age of 13, Martin was faced with a difficult time in her life. She saw doctors for nearly two-years straight for a chronic pain that she was experiencing and still has to this day. This would turn out to be an important time in her life, because it forced her to mature quickly at a young age.
“Although that’s a time I hate thinking back to, I know I grew a lot during that experience,” Martin said. “It’s also when I turned to reading and writing to express myself.”

Overcoming that type of adversity at a young age and not letting it hold her back, Martin chose to utilize it to make herself a better person. These are the traits and characteristics you will see out of Sierra Martin as a journalist. She combines her polished writing skills with her desire and passion to do what she loves with maximum effort.
